Frequently Asked Questions

What Do We Do?

A building certification consultant plays a specialist role in guiding projects through the regulatory and compliance framework that governs building work. We do not replace the building certifier, who is the statutory decision-maker, but instead act as an advisor to help clients achieve compliance efficiently and avoid costly delays or redesigns.

At Keystone Building Consultants, we work with your design and development team early in the process to identify compliance risks, streamline approval pathways, and reduce costly rework or delays later in the project.

While our team holds the necessary qualifications and licensing (including QBCC accreditation), we act in a consulting capacity only.

How is a Building Certification Consultant
Different From a Building Certifier?

A building certifier is authorised to assess and approve building work, conduct inspections, and issue formal compliance certificates in accordance with Queensland legislation.

A building consultant, like Keystone, offers strategic and technical guidance to help your project meet those requirements before it reaches the certifier. We do not act as the certifier for, but we help prepare your team for a smooth certification process by:
- Identifying compliance issues early.
- Advising on the best approval pathway.
- Reviewing plans and documentation.
- Liaising with design teams to ensure code alignment.

Think of us as your compliance partner—here to support your team and reduce risks before formal approvals are sought.

When Should We Engage a Building Consultant?

The earlier, the better. Getting us involved during the design phase allows us to:
- Review concepts for code compliance
- Flag any approval pathway challenges
- Reduce the risk of delays or redesigns
- Help your team plan more confidently

We also support projects already in progress by reviewing updated designs, liaising with certifiers or approval bodies, and ensuring your documentation remains on track for compliance.
